FEATURES
Allamanda spp., Allamanda is an easy-to-grow flowering shrub from the tropics that
offers a steady display of golden-yellow flowers all spring and summer
long. It's prized for its excellent heat tolerance and long-season bloom
-- as well as the fact that allamanda grows well in both containers and
landscapes.
Grow allamanda in containers either by itself, with other tropical
plants (such as elephant's ears), or with heat-loving annual flowers
such as angelonia. (We think its yellow flowers are a wonderful accent
to plants that have purple flowers or foliage!)
In frost-free climates, large allmanda varieties are grown as vines or
hedges (depending on the type). Dwarf allamanda varieties are excellent
small hedges, or to line sidewalks or walkways.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
Grow allamanda in full sun and moist, well-drained soil to keep it
happiest. Allamanda will grow in partially shaded spots, but it won't
bloom as well.
Because this flowering shrub is drought tolerant, it's an excellent
choice for low-care landscapes. Even though allamanda is drought
tolerant, it's best to keep it well watered the first couple of months
after you plant it to help it get established.
The best time to prune most allamanda varieties is mid-spring, before
they start to bloom. You can trim them back here and there any time of
the year, but doing heavy pruning in spring should help give the best
display of blooms.
